Description
Rainstorm Beneath the Summit (Sanka Hakuu) and South Wind, Clear Sky (Gaifū kaisei) also described Mount Fuji in Japan, and they were the famous wood engravings authored by the Japanese ukiyo-e artist, Katsushika Hokusai (1760-1849). Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji (Fugaku Sanjūrokkei) were paintings of views of famous places in the ukiyo-e art, and they were depicting the views of Mount Fuji from various faraway perspectives in the Kanto region of Japan. In the initial version, there were only 36 views. Owing to the wide recognition, Katsushika Hokusai added another 10 views to Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji (Fugaku Sanjūrokkei), so that the series finally included 46 views.
