Activities of the 12 Mouths: The 1st Month Anonymous Qing Dynasty(1644-1911) Representing activities of the 12 lunar months is a traditional from of genre painting. In this work are pavilions and hallways arranged from near to far using Western single-point perspective. The traditional activities of the nobility are all rendered with shading and perspective for realism. The scenery here of the 1st month is dominated by stretches of roll-top roofs and dividing walls. The perspective point in the lower half lies beyond the border off to the right. The roofs of Qing imperial architecture tend to be plain and heavy, reflecting court grandeur. More emphasis is on tiles than wood, while walled surfaces replace "bargeboard panels" to create curves and flat surfaces. Railings include tao-fang and chi-lan styles.
